Snack foods are a type of food not meant to be eaten as a main meal of the day, such as breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Rather, the food is intended as a snack, which is something to temporarily tide over a person's hunger until the next meal, provide a brief supply of energy for the body, or to be eaten for enjoyment of the taste. Foods manufactured primarily as snack foods are often classified as junk food, as they generally have little or no nutritional value, and are not seen as contributing towards general health and nutrition. However, some snack foods can be a healthy addition to the diet, such as dried fruit, nuts, granola, and rice cakes.
