Skating is a sport in which blade like runners or sets of wheels attached to shoes are used for gliding on ice or on surfaces other than ice. Some of the types of skating include ice skating, figure skating, ice dancing, ice hockey, roller-skating, in-line skating and speed skating. Skating is often done at skating rinks. Skating rinks are either made of ice for the types of skating done on ice, or wood or other hard surface for the types of skating not done on ice. Skating rinks might be public or private. Most public skating rinks, whether they are ice or hard-surface, will offer skate rentals so that amateurs and those who don't often participate in skating can patronize the skating rink.
