You want top-notch service from a company with a stellar reputation in the property management business-someone with good business sense and a real working knowledge of the managing industry. Check out the company's physical location if possible. Speak with several professionals to get a feel for the company. Are they courteous and on time? Do they reflect a positive business attitude? Ask whether the company is local, national or international, with several offices or one. Find out if the company has a website you can check out for additional information. Many property management companies and agents have interactive websites, where you can search for real estate properties, fill out maintenance request forms and sign up for listings notices. Make a detailed list of the services each property managing company offers, such as residential and home services, commercial services, condominiums, city agencies, estates, housing and cleaning, multi-office buildings or property rentals. Inquire whether the agent works with land contractors on new construction, or whether the agent works primarily with apartment rentals. Find out if the agent is licensed, insured and bonded. Property management companies must have the proper education, training and accreditation to perform property management duties.
