The Babylonians usually are given credit for the birth of astrology. Babylonian astrologers used charts that enabled them to predict the recurrence of the seasons and some celestial events. For the next 2000 years, astrology and astronomy were the same science. Astrology was introduced to the Greeks in the early 4th century B.C. and astrologers were embraced as scientists. As many things Greek were, astrology quickly was embraced by the Romans. The names astrologers use today for the zodiacal signs came from the Roman names given to them. Astrologers were also embraced by the Arabs about the same time and they were responsible for the worldwide interest in astrology that evolved.
