Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta is the capital of Geaorgia, and the largest city in the state, boasting almost 500,000 inhabitants. The city has a rich history, and was incorporated on December 29th, 1847. Atlanta was an important railroad and military supply hub during the American Civil War, and was also the scene of many battles during this time. The city was nearly destroyed by fire during the civil war. After the reconstruction, Atlanta was even stronger than before, becoming the fifth city to serve as the state capital. Atlanta also became a major location in the civil rights movement throughout the 1960s, and was home to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Atlanta’s climate is considered to be a humid subtropical one, with average summer temperatures reaching 90° F and average winter temperatures around 50° F. These temperatures make it an ideal place for people to visit who may live in areas that have very harsh winters and want to go someplace warmer. There is a wide range of things to do and see in Atlanta, from a variety of museums to many different historical sites. Tourists can find everything from a variety of different foods to art centers or even sporting events to occupy their time when in Atlanta.
